The Tourbillon

Mastery of perfection

The Tourbillon is the most refined watchmaking complication as well as the most dazzling technique known in watchmaking. It is both folly and wisdom. Folly because the sheer technical nature requires exceptional dexterity, and wisdom because it averages out the irregularities of time.

The Tourbillon, a small cage containing the escapement and balance-wheel, offers all master watchmakers the possibility of making their biggest dream come true: to achieve perfection in a mechanism's running.

Indeed, a watch runs differently according to its position. the heart of the movement can beat at different speeds, which causes discrepancies in the time given.

The Tourbillon was therefore invented to average out errors of rate in the vertical positions, caused by the earth's gravitational pull on the watch's movement. This wonderful specialty was invented in 1801 and, since then, only a few dozen different Tourbillon models have been made.

Franck Muller has patented his own Tourbillon. He has become a master of this art, which has contributed to the development of many of his world premieres integrating the Tourbillon. The owner of a timepiece with a Franck Muller Tourbillon wears, on his wrist, a living example of the evolution of watchmaking history, to which Franck Muller, contemporary watchmaker, contributes day after day.
