Seconde Déloyale

With model 8880, the House of Franck Muller returns to the sources of watchmaking tradition while proposing a very contemporary piece of entertainment. The Independent Second Hand is in fact a complication invented at the end of the XVIII century which offers a more precise reading of time than does the trailing second hand. Teh second hand remains immobile until the second has actually passed. Franck Muller proposes a variation of this complication with the Seconde Déloyale (disloyal second hand) in which the hand jumps once each second according to the principle of the Independent Second Hnad but what is original about the Franck Muller Disloyal Second Hand lies in the fact that the start and the stop of the second are activated by means of a column wheel. The "disloyal" second hand can be suspended at will for an indefinite time without the watch being stopped. But this hand, which jumps from one second to the next, is also reminiscent of a quartz movement, and therein lies the fun of it. Only the owner and a handful of experts will be able to appreciate the rhythmic movement of the disloyal second hand and recognize this as a true little mechanical marvel.
